Friends: 25th Anniversary – The One With The Anniversary

As you may, or may not know (but you should), F•r•i•e•n•d•s 25th anniversary is this year! It just passed this Sunday, September 22nd! For the anniversary there has been a variety of ways to celebrate; a pop up shop in NYC, an app with wallpapers, stickers, filters, etc. and AMC theater showings. Unfortunately, I did not get to attend the pop up shop in the city BUT I came across the Friends 25th anniversary AMC showings! I went on the first night and there are actually only two other showings, September 28th and October 2nd. If you do not see the listings, I believe you need to check on those days. If you’re interested in going, check out AMC theaters!

As a long time Friends fan, I felt that this was something I definitely needed to attend. I would stay up to watch episode after episode of reruns on Nick at Nite and was always left wanting another. To that point, it makes me an ashamed fan to have missed out on the pop up shop but I guess you just can’t make it to everything! I didn’t even look into this to get an idea of what it was, I just saw something for Friends in theater and I just knew I HAD to go! I have AMC Stubs but it was an exclusive showing so I had to pay $15 BUT I didn’t mind. Since I didn’t look into this prior, I was unsure what it was going in. The run time was an hour and forty five minutes, which is obviously longer than an episode… were they going to have all behind the scenes features, never before seen footage, play some old episodes, have this random movie? I didn’t know! Which kind of made it more exciting!

So Keith and I actually decided to go to the theater together but to different movies. Sounds weird, I know… but it wasn’t! He got to see Rambo: Last Blood and I went off to see Friends: 25th Anniversary. I haven’t seen any Rambo movies excluding First Blood and he’s not the biggest Friends fan and they were playing at the same exact time so it was perfect!

Once at the theater and sitting in my seat, there were trailers for Fathom events at AMC and after a short while they quizzed us on the show! I was answering them to myself, as I overheard others answering out loud. There weren’t actual trailers but an intro from Extra TV of a short behind the scene clip about the show. It started up with the theme song and the whole theater did the clap! Uhh, I LOVE IT! You cannot watch Friends and NOT do the clap. I even do it at home when I’m watching.

Basically we sat in a theater and watched four episodes from the series. I won’t say which ones just in case you would like to go check it out for yourself! I don’t want to give everything away 🙂 . It was a good experience to sit in a theater and hear fellow fans clapping along, singing and quoting as the show went on. I will say the way that it ended was strange. They played the four episodes and once the fourth one ended it was done, the screen went black… no one actually knew if it was over because it was SO abrupt. Aside from that though, you should check it out for yourself because when else are you going to get to watch Friends IN THEATER!

Leave a comment down below if you’re looking to experience this for yourself! Also, comment who your favorite Friend is. I always struggle with that because all six of them are my fave in their own way! Hope you enjoyed reading up on this post!

See ya,
Samm 🙂
