Our Baby / Honeymoon Weekend Getaway!

Never did I think I would be thanking Covid for anything, but here we are… thank. you. Covid!!! Tommy and I were supposed to get married Tuesday, November 15th, 2022, I began feeling cold like symptoms the Friday before. This made me very nervous… my first thought being Mel. As I mentioned in My Pregnancy Journey – Third Trimester! blog, we’re very fortunate to have people that are knowledgeable on, not only pregnancy and Covid on their own, but the effects of them together. Thankfully we were reassured that we had nothing to worry about.

Then we moved onto the thought of our wedding. We had a date set for a court wedding and had to reschedule there. Emotionally that was hard because we wanted to get married ASAP as possible (Michael Scott, anyone?). But it truly made it that much easier knowing that all we had to do was make one call to Town Hall and inform our family, and we were set. There was no stress of a big venue with a bunch of people, floral arrangements, a DJ, and all that that goes into planning a wedding. I don’t even know how situations like that get handled…

We got married on December 1st, 2022, which was a Thursday. Originally, our date was on a Tuesday and for that reason we figured we would have our day and go right back to work on Wednesday. Like I said, keeping it simple. With our date being moved we had the option to plan out a honeymoon. Being pregnant, this was perfect to make the weekend into, not only a honeymoon, but a baby moon too! I think this was just what we needed.

*baby moon – noun: baby-moon
a relaxing or romantic vacation taken by parents-to-be before their baby is born.

Our plans for the weekend included Netflix, chicken soup, enjoying the ambience, and relaxation. Tommy and I are very much into the “cabincore” and earthy feel so that was what we were in search of when finding our weekend home. We jumped on Airbnb and found this little cottage in Kempton, PA with the perfect scenery; a lake, surrounded by trees and all things cabin like. We left that Thursday, arriving late at night, and stayed until Sunday morning. I could not be more happy that we decided to go away because once we were there, we wish we booked it for longer.

We’ve Arrived

When we arrived, we were a little unsure of where it was. It was DARK and we neglected to look on the other side of the road since we saw all the houses on the right. Once Maps said we arrived we stopped in the road and looked around since no one else was on the road. We see a woman come out of a house with a flashlight and we asked her for directions. It turned out she was one of the hosts of the Airbnb, which made sense because our place was right across the street. We gave her a timeframe that we would be there so I’m sure she had a feeling it was us!

We got situated and changed into something cozy. We wanted to settle in and watch our shows but turned out that the TVs were a little outdated. They had the Netflix app but we were out of range? We didn’t understand what the issue was. Basically we called it a night and figured we would do something about it tomorrow.

First Day

Our first full day, we planned to rot our brains with Netflix and make some chicken soup. We’d been on a crockpot kick! While Tommy was cooking, I tried to play around with the TV but nothing was working. We decided it would be best to purchase a Roku streaming stick, and see what that would do for us. You know what that means… I looked up Target and took a drive over to the closest one 😏. I put together a mini shopping list and headed out!

A new Target is fun… sometimes they have things that others don’t have. There was no way I could resist the baby section and I found pair of feeties for “My First Christmas”, just in case she was born on that day… she wasn’t, lol. There was this maternity dress that I thought was too precious but being eight months along and the season didn’t call for it. I perused the aisles, grabbed the Roku stick, and made my way back.

When we had arrived, Tommy discovered that the house had a piano. This made the trip whole for him! Since we don’t have our own piano he got to play around with that one. My husband claims he does not know how to play the piano but he sat down on that bench and started playing as if he had been for years. Which made it that much more impressive! Needless to say, he had means to entertain himself, and me! 😊

Thankfully we were able to setup the Roku without any issues and now we could do exactly what we planned on for this weekend. We watched some Netflix, ate our chicken noodle soup and got outside to lookout at the lake and gaze at the night sky. How incredible it would be to have this view each night….

Second Day

The next day had a little more going on than the first. We started and finished Wednesday on Netflix throughout those two days. Once we finished that Tommy got to enjoy the piano even more. I had my own personal concert going on! During the day it started to rain, which we had actually been counting on. It was torrential downpouring at some point, we were in bliss. We went for a walk along the property between the breaks of rain. There was a small lake that we looked out at during our stay and in the same area there was a stream that flowed through the woods.

We got just what we wanted out of the weekend… we got to relax while watching some shows, playing music, cooking, and just being together. Plus, this Airbnb could not have been a better pick for us!

And although we didn’t have a big bash, we still need a wedding cake… don’t you think?

Review

Unfortunately, we did not get our review for the Airbnb up in time so I would like to share our opinion here. Rating Overall: 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I want to start by saying how unbelievably SWEET the hosts were. Not only were they super accommodating, helping us get into the cottage and showing us around but made themselves very available in case we had any concerns or questions. They also got us a poinsettia and a note “Congratulations! Enjoy your stay!” That was above and beyond.

The aesthetic was warm and cozy, very old fashioned and the dining area had plants hanging around into the kitchen… love that. Since we stayed in December, it was cold but the house kept us very warm. It is perfect for a quiet stay for an extended weekend getaway. We really wish we could have been here longer. If you want to take a trip to Pennsylvania, this home is in Kempton.

The only thing that we recommend is bringing a Roku or Amazon stick… something to stream in case you are looking for some downtime during your stay. This goes for any Airbnb though!

We couldn’t recommend this place more! It was just the place we wanted to commemorate our big day, and the beginning of the rest of our lives together. I have never been so thrilled, or so certain, about anything in my life! I married the man of my dreams, without any hesitation or temptation of “cold feet”. We wanted to do it right! ❤️

See ya,
Samm 🌻
