Whipped Coffee Trend.
I’m sure by now you’ve tried to make your own whipped coffee, and if not, at least heard of it. This coffee trend took over Tik Tok and the rest of social media over the past month or so. Being in quarantine can get very boring so once something catches, everyone is trying it! Me, being the coffee lover I am, had to try it too.
I don’t know about you but I was curious where this trend originated, so I did some research. This is known in South Korea as Dalgona coffee, where it comes from. Dalgona is the South Korean name for honeycomb toffee candy and knowing that now, it completely makes sense. Thank you to Jung Il-woo, the actor who had this drink in Macau and later showed this drink on a show called Pyunstorang (“Fun-Staurant”). I don’t know if this interests anyone else but I thought it was cool 🙂 .
Considering this trend blew up, it was not hard to find a recipe and trust me, this is one of the easiest recipes there is. To make this whipped coffee, you will need:
2 tablespoons of instant coffee
2 tablespoons of sugar OR honey
2 tablespoons of hot water
Milk of your choice
Ice
Also something to “whip” the ingredients. Most people use a mixer but I don’t mind grabbing the whisk and doing it by hand. Whichever you prefer 🙂 .
Each time I saw someone post about this, I saw the recipe call for sugar, except one. But before I decided to try this out myself I saw someone use honey instead. Thankfully I did because this is an alternative I will use each and every time that I make this coffee. My reason being that I don’t like when there are particles leftover in the button of my beverage, whether it be coffee, lemonade, etc. I’m sure it tastes just the same!
So I thought I would have a little more fun with this trend. I wanted to try the original but went with a couple variations to change it up.
The Original
For each cup that you make, you will fill it with ice and about half to three quarters will be taken up by your choice of milk. For me, this was oat milk. To be more specific Planet Oat vanilla milk.
This was my favorite of the three cups but either way, I was glad to try out different ways to make it!
With Lavender Essential Oil.
Next I tried it out with some lavender vitality essential oil from Young Living. I got this idea from @essentiallymorgana on Instagram and I can’t thank her enough for this amazing idea! Unfortunately, it ruined the coffee for me, lol. Some oils are stronger than others or just stronger than you think. A full drop was even a little too much in this case. If the lavender wasn’t overpowering, it would’ve been pretty damn good!
And with this one I also decided to change it up with Almond Breeze vanilla almond milk!
With Creamer.
For this concoction, I decided to try out half oat milk and just as much creamer that is good for my liking, and kept the coffee part the same. I recently came across Coconut Creme creamer and that was just a must in general. I thought it might be a nice mix with the dalgana coffee as well! And was I right!
It was SO good and I am SO glad I decided to try this out. I think the coconut was a great choice too, it seemed to mix very well with the toffee like taste. Although the original was my fave, this is definitely not that far behind!
I hope that you enjoyed this read, even if it is the tenth whipped coffee blog you read! I enjoyed writing this and trying out the various forms of dalgona coffee. If you haven’t tried it yet and you are a coffee person, I strongly suggest you do and if you have tried it, maybe I inspired you to try something different! You do not have to try it with YL lavender vitality oil. They make lavender syrup and there are also many other flavors to try out for this, as well as MANY creamers if you go that route!
Have fun with it if you decide to try your own version and be sure to tag me if you decide to post! I would love to see what you come up with, even if it is just what I did 🙂 .
I also just want to mention that I would’ve had another cute coffee cup to use but Amazon didn’t get it to me quick enough. That is all, thank you 🙂 .
See ya,
Samm 🌻
